Who doesn't love a good mystery? When the weather turns cold, and the roses have finished blooming, then we can ponder a different type of floral bounty from the land. Here, we have a photo featuring a piece of porcelain dishware found at the edge of the forest. There is just enough detail to see pink roses, a blue ribbon, and a basket handle. Yet, this is not enough to identify the overall pattern of this lovely floral design. It resembles a vintage French pattern, but designs were often copied by other manufacturers, so who knows?

Piece of broken porcelain with floral design and blue ribbon on cracked surface. Placed on dark textured background, evoking nostalgia.

Other mysterious shards have been found, including pieces of blue and white transferware along with painted stoneware. None of the dishware can be identified from these fragments, though. The number of previous dwellers over time has compounded the mystery, rather than helping to narrow down timelines. Based on the pattern of older pastel pink roses, it seems these dishes could have belonged to the original owners who had backgrounds in New England, although they lived elsewhere at the time they built their second home in the South. The husband was an industrialist with a company based in Chicago, as well as having a stint leading another company in New York. His wife was active in community affairs, even letting people visit the property for garden club tours. Supposedly, the property's household records are sitting in storage at a particular Massachusetts organization, but the employees did not respond to requests for obtaining the records.

Speculating about the source of the dishware is half the fun, so rather than spending any more time researching, I will turn over the mystery to you. If anyone out there knows the name of this pattern and maker, then feel free to contact me via the online comment form. I'll let you know if the mystery is ever solved!
